For small e-commerce sites (less than 40 products) we recommend the use of static html pages and Paypal instead of a database. For the following reasons:
1. The cost of initial site design is less.
2. You do not have to by an ssl certificate.
3. You do not have to process credit cards.
Instead you pay 3% per sale to Paypal. Then they electronically deposit your earnings into your checking acct. Cost of shipping is added to each order as either a flat rate or per sale (your choice.)
When an item on your site is sold, Paypal emails you to let you know.
Customers use Paypal on E-bay and all over the internet to securely purchase items.
